Leiter was Mandela Effected

Philo

86 day(s) ago

At his blog yesterday, Leiter wrote "Ghandi" in a link to an article about the Indian philosopher and activist. A few hours later, I saw that Leiter had changed the link title to "Gandhi."

I think many of us, including Leiter himself initially, recall always spelling the name "Ghandi."

No one talks about this stuff, because they are afraid to be called crazy, but I had to chuckle when I saw Leiter stumble right into the phenomenon. He must have spelled "Ghandi" from memory as he had been doing for years, only to realize that the article he linked to has the new spelling, so he changed it.

Strange times, people!

What is a "Mandela effect"?

Who changed the spelling of Gandhi?

This is the most unintelligible thread yet. What the heck is Philo talking about?

Well, if universities were truly places of open inquiry and knowledge, we might be able to find out. But because they're state run indoctrination centers that eject anyone who is willing to ask the truly uncomfortable questions we all ask in secret, we may never know for sure. But we can know that these changes are happening, and it will do no good to deny that they are. That is why I wanted to point out the Leiter gaff. It was on display for everyone to see.

It's a 4-chan joke that Leiter spelled the name "Ghandi"--just as millions of others have remembered it for years--only to later change the spelling to "Gandhi"?

Please explain.

I think Nachman is (mistakenly) attributing a well-known bit of internet culture (the Mandela effect) to 4chan -- and thus implying that people who post here are like 4chan posters. This is silly. I conclude that Nachman needs to get out more, maybe read some interwebs.

Good. Now also remember "Weinstein" is correctly pronounced as wine-stine not wine-steen. It's a German name.

So then shouldn't it be "vine-stine"?

No. But the last syllable should be pronounced "shtine". As in "Einstein".

Those trying to link one of Leiter's jokes to 4chan are as pathetic as the website to which they refer.
