on low status males in male-centric spaces responding to women with hostililty

"We hypothesised that female-initiated disruption of a male hierarchy incites hostile behaviour from poor performing males who stand to lose the most status. To test this hypothesis, we used an online first-person shooter video game that removes signals of dominance but provides information on gender, individual performance, and skill. We show that lower-skilled players were more hostile towards a female-voiced teammate, especially when performing poorly. In contrast, lower-skilled players behaved submissively towards a male-voiced player in the identical scenario. This difference in gender- directed behaviour became more extreme with poorer focal-player performance. We suggest that low-status males increase female-directed hostility to minimize the loss of status as a consequence of hierarchical reconfiguration resulting from the entrance of a woman into the competitive arena. Higher-skilled players, in contrast, were more positive towards a female relative to a male teammate. As higher-skilled players have less to fear from hierarchical reorganization, we argue that these males behave more positively in an attempt to support and garner a female player’s attention."

If only there were a term for this... maybe a compound one... goodness marking? Rightness flagging?

I wonder how males who are not poor performers would respond to poorly performing females who upset hierarchies of skill without the performance credentials to justify doing so.

You have a hypothesis. Time to test it, dickwad.

Just wanted to make sure we weren't comparing apples to oranges!

So if you're mediocre you can support the females to give the impression of being confident of your high status. We've seen quite a lot of that in recent years.

The real MVP:

Metabros to a tee.

That fits a lot of what I've seen. The young male philosophers who are most into feminism aren't the best philosophers. Mediocre philosophers are still smarter than mediocre gamers, so no surprise their behavior is different.

It's called 'hitting on them'. Soon enough it will be called 'sexual harassment'.

If gamer women use sexual attraction to gain status in the community, that will lower the status of already lower-status men. It's still possible that the lower-status men are equally good gamers as the most attractive women.

Apples and oranges.
