Jason Stanley Appreciation Thread

Vasily

Most of us know Jason Stanley through his seminal work in the philosophy of language and epistemology, but recently I've been reading his political work and in particular his work on propaganda, and I would submit that it is even deeper and more important. I thought I would open a thread where we could discuss his political work and evaluate its current and future impact. I think we should also discuss the important practical work he as done as well, in particular his work in support of women and minorities in the profession and the bravery he has shown in the face of constant death threats and harassment.

How does he compare to Jacques Ellul?

I'm not aware of any "seminal work" by Stanley.

He's better known for his semenal work with graduate students.

Yes, "semenal", I get it, nice job showing your immaturity with the locker room humour. But the fact remains that this hatred for Jason Stanley is motivated by racism, pure and simple. And it's truly hilarious that people even try to diminish his accomplishments in philosophy. He has deepened our understanding of context sensitivity more than anyone since Wittgenstein, and it is just pointless to dismiss the epistemology work of the person who invented subject sensitive invariantism.

Racism? He’s a white guy.

Jazz Tranley? Isn't he a woman?

Francesco

"Racism? He’s a white guy."

He is married to a black woman and is the father of two black children and understands the black experience as well as anyone, and obviously the racists on this blog can tolerate neither his understanding of the black experience nor the positive things he has done to support racial justice in this country, and for that matter, around the world. You people are really showing your true colours here. I guess it's true what they say about this "blog."

Francesco - whoever you are - nice trolling effort. Fairly subtle. But still, I call 'Troll' and hereby demand my $10 reward.

Pretty funny, but (a) sort of one-note and (b) almost certainly the result of procrastination. Either write something really searing or get back to work!

You think a white-black pairing automatically makes a black child? Why are you such a racist? Disgusting.

Stanley is married to a black woman and that makes him black! It also makes him a woman! Why don't you shitlords understand?!

What is sadder: the sad place or the person who frequents the sad place knowing that it is sad?

OK that is officially the saddest thing ever. Except for the guy that hooked up with a philosopher and said it was the hottest sex he ever had. Maybe those are equally sad. Or maybe the saddest thing is being cucked in the CHE by Scratchy. I just don't know anymore.

That is huge! Helicopters save lives!

I am grateful to Jason Stanley for inventing the helicopter!

Maybe it is time for us to all "simmer down" and read deeply from a little known text called "de Caelo." It pairs well with malbec and sriracha [bows gracioustly] +1

I've been a fan and occasional participant on the metablogs since their inception and recoil at the SJW excesses of so many of my colleagues. Despite its occasional nuttiness, these places have been a breath of fresh air.

But there are limits. Criticize Jason Stanley all you want. But to quote a lyric from the Rolling Stones' "Brown Sugar" when discussing a man who is married to a Black African is straightforwardly racist, and should not be permitted even on this blog. The song is about rough sex between white people and black slaves.

I think that the blog/forum moderators should delete the comment quoting "Brown Sugar".

Rudjer

Edit: the song is about white people violently sexually assaulting black slaves.

Stanley doesn't have a slave, does he? If so, that's really fucked up.

And that makes him a hypocrite. I don't mind the slavery as much as I do the hypocrisy.
